Mesa Arch Sunstar Panorama, Canyonlands National Park, Utah

This location has become a photographic icon for a reason, it is amazing. This was my first visit to Mesa Arch, and fortunately, I had done my homework. With good planning, and cooperaton from Mother Nature, I needed just one morning. I left Moab two hours before sunrise, drove the 45 minutes to the trailhead in Canyonlands N.P., and quickly did the short hike via headlamp. I had plenty of time to set up my panoramic composition, load the film, and wait. As the sun rose, it reflected off of the lower cliff face and caused the underside of Mesa Arch to glow. I waited until the sun began to hide behind the rim of the arch to capture the sunstar as the light rays refrated around the rock edge. Towers, another arch, and water carved canyons can be seen in detail in the distance. Another magic moment and incredible experience to share!
