Fallen Leaves, Liquid Light, Zion N.P.
This is such an elegant image. Simple detail and extraordinary light. While the big vistas of Zion National Park were shrouded in bright light, I took to the river bottom hunting for details within the shadows. This section of mud flat held a diversity of fallen leaves, and just enough water to be reflective. The shaded light provided a cool tone, which contrasted beautifully against the warm colored reflection of the sandstone cliff from across the valley. This is the type of intimate detail image that is made for large format photography. Large scale prints of this image are luminous!
