Sierra Snow Cave Panorama
Many of my most unique images are the product of an open minded adventure in the mountains. "High Sierra Snow Cave" is a perfect example of this "process". I spent several days, morning and evening, wandering the high alpine trails, meadows and peaks in the Carson Pass area south of Lake Tahoe. While the wildflowers were plentiful, the conditions didn't lend themselves to exceptional photography. Fortunately, as I crested a ridge and looked across Hope Valley, I noticed this snow cave/tunnel on the hillside below. I chose to compose this image using a 4x10 inch sheet of black and white film, eliminating distractions, enhancing the enclosed feeling of the cave, and accentuating the abstract patterns of the snow roof. This is one of the most unique images I've ever captured in the mountains near my home in Lake Tahoe.
Enjoy the View!
